We're proud to support one of our founding members in fundraising for Dare2tri.
Dare2tri empowers individuals with disabilities and gives them the opportunity to be physically active, engaged with their community, and helps them set and reach goals.
Dare2tri is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments by building confidence, community, health and wellness through swimming, biking and running. A leader in the paratriathlon community, Dare2tri provides adaptive training for youth, adults, and injured service members, from novice to elite. Since 2011, Dare2tri has helped thousands cross the finish line by eliminating barriers to high-priced equipment, transportation, and coaching. Come support my teammates and I complete the infamous Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on June 9, 2024!
My Story: As a sophomore in high school, I began losing vision in my right eye. Without any indication what might be causing it, I was assured that the other eye would likely become blind, very soon, and likely permanently. Through years of trials, treatments, injections, infusions, and surgeries, I held on to any sports I could still play, ultimately finding triathlon. I completed several in the last few years. My favorite race so far was certainly Ironman Arizona. I completed it in November 2023 with my childhood friend, Kevin Mendoza, who is also competing in Escape from Alcatraz this year, fundraising too!
Update: I underwent a complicated but very successful eye surgery in the first week of this year. Overtime, the work done by my surgeon should restore a lot of the vision lost due to years of damage from the inflammation. Less than 2 weeks post-surgery, I'm already noticing the progress and I'm super excited to race this year with even better ability to chase down my best friend, Kevin.
Please consider donating if you have the ability, any amount is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to share my story and link with anyone interested and consider stopping by to spectate on June 9th, 2024 in San Francisco!
